Jewelry Care
Everyday Jewelry Care
To keep your jewelry looking its best, put it on after perfume, lotion, hairspray, and makeup. Remove it before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping. Try to avoid contact with strong chemicals such as cleaning products, chlorine, self-tan, perfumes, and hand sanitizers. When you are not wearing your jewelry, store it in a soft pouch or box so it does not rub against other pieces. After wearing, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth to remove oils and sweat.
Cleaning Your Jewelry
For everyday cleaning, use a soft, dry or slightly damp microfiber or polishing cloth and gently wipe the surface. Make sure the piece is completely dry before you store it.
If a deeper clean is needed for non-plated pieces, you can mix a little mild soap with lukewarm water, dip a soft cloth into the solution, wipe the jewelry, then rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals, silver dips, abrasive cleaners, hard brushes, and rough cloths, as they can scratch the metal or wear down any gold plating.
316L Stainless Steel
316L stainless steel is very durable and highly resistant to tarnish, which makes it ideal for everyday wear. It can handle more exposure to water than many other metals, but it is still best to avoid long, hot showers, pools, and the ocean when wearing it to keep the finish looking new. You can clean plain 316L stainless steel with mild soap and water when needed, then rinse and dry it carefully.
18k Gold Plated 316L Stainless Steel
For 18k gold plated 316L stainless steel, the same general rules apply, but with a bit more care to protect the gold layer. Try to keep it away from water, sweat, perfume, lotion, and friction. Clean it gently with a soft, dry cloth, without scrubbing or rubbing too hard, and remove it before swimming, exercising, or sleeping.
S925 Sterling Silver
Sterling silver can naturally darken over time due to oxidation, which is completely normal and can be polished away. To slow this process, store your silver jewelry in a dry, closed pouch or box when you are not wearing it. When the surface looks dull or slightly dark, use a soft silver-polishing cloth and gently polish it until it regains its shine. Try to avoid pools, hot tubs, and the ocean, as chemicals and saltwater can cause silver to tarnish faster.
18k Gold Plated S925 & 18k Gold Vermeil
Both 18k gold plated S925 and 18k gold vermeil pieces have a layer of 18k gold over solid 925 sterling silver. Vermeil simply uses a thicker layer of gold. To keep the gold finish beautiful for as long as possible, avoid wearing these pieces in the shower, pool, ocean, gym, or while sleeping. Keep them away from strong friction and avoid stacking them tightly against rough surfaces or other jewelry that might scratch or wear down the gold layer. After wearing, gently wipe them with a soft, dry cloth and store them on their own in a soft pouch or box. Do not use silver dips or harsh chemical cleaners on these pieces, as they can remove or damage the gold layer.
14k Gold & 14k White Gold
Jewelry made from 14k gold or 14k white gold is designed for long-term, regular use, but it still benefits from gentle care. You can occasionally clean these pieces with mild soap and lukewarm water. Let them soak for a short time if needed, then use a soft cloth to wipe them, rinse with clean water, and dry them thoroughly. Keep them away from strong chemicals such as bleach, chlorine, and aggressive cleaning sprays, as these can damage the metal over time.
14k white gold often has a bright, cool finish that may be enhanced with a surface treatment such as rhodium. Over time and with everyday wear, this surface can soften slightly. If the piece starts to look less bright, a jeweller can professionally polish or re-finish it to restore the original shine.
